Laurent-Perrier "Cuvée Rosé" Brut Rosé Champagne

SKU #100181 96 points Connoisseurs Guide

Elegant and fruity at the same time with a quick invitation from bright, pure cherryish notes and then filled out handsomely by whiffs of chalky soils and well-integrated, rich and uplifting yeast-driven scents, this wine manages to be both vigorous and layered at one and the same time. Its bubbles are insistent, finely carved and add to the early sensations of lightness and energy yet also carry the wine long into a balanced, refined finish. And its latter palate grip is exactly what one should expect from the genre. While service with light foods would be our first choice, this one has the beauty to stand alone. *Three Stars* (12/2013)

The NV Cuvée Rosé Brut is 100% Pinot Noir based on 2008 (90%). The color is an intense orange-colored pink and the nose offers beautifully subtle, but also deep, intense flavors of ripe and macerated Pinot Noir and lemon. There is also great purity and finesse on the structured palate. The finish is fresh and reveals a perfect fruit. This Rosé drinks almost like a light red wine. (SR) (6/2016)

92 points Decanter

Laurent Perrier first released this rosé in 1968, well before it became fashionable to have a pink-hued Champagne in the portfolio. 100% Pinot Noir is sourced from both the north and south sectors of the Montagne de Reims sub-region, and famously draws its colour from skin contact rather than the more usual addition of red wine. It has striking freshness on the nose, bags of pure, zippy strawberry and raspberry fruit flavours, and satisfying vivacity. It's beautifully balanced with a long finish, and calls for a carpaccio of raw salmon. (YC) (12/2018)

92 points John Gilman

The non-vintage Laurent-Perrier Brut Rosé out of magnum was drinking very well indeed on my last visit to Burgundy in June, offering up a deep and soil-driven personality on both the nose and palate that works best with food, rather than served as an aperitif. The bouquet is a fine and complex blend of cherries, blood orange, rye toast, a classy base of soil, citrus peel and an overtly smoky topnote. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and beautifully balanced, with a fine core, bright acids, elegant mousse and a very long, transparent and refined finish. Given that this wine was in magnum, the odds are pretty good that this is the previous release of the non-vintage Brut Rosé from Laurent-Perrier, so I am not sure if the slightly different showings of the two examples are indicative of slightly different wines for the American and French markets, or if this is simply a function of two different releases. In any case, this is extremely good juice. (7/2013)

92 points James Suckling

Shows a linear line of crisp acidity and vivid fruit of dried strawberries and orange peel. Full-bodied, tight and focused with a bright finish. Fruity yet vivid. Commanding. (9/2018)

92 points Vinous

Vivid orange-pink. An expressive, spice-accented bouquet evokes fresh raspberry, orange pith, white flowers and ginger, with a hint of rhubarb adding an earthy flourish. Sappy and broad in the mouth, offering intense red fruit and bitter citrus flavors underscored by chalky mineral and white pepper notes. Rich yet lively rosé with excellent closing thrust and floral persistence. (JR) (1/2015)

92 points Wine Enthusiast

This wine is both rich and soft. It combines the ripeness of red-fruit flavors and a creamy texture with a crisp edge of citrus acidity. A tight tannic edge gives it shape, adds to its richness and provides an intense, long-lasting afertaste. (RV) (8/2018)

92 points Wine Spectator

Firm and finely knit, this offers richness in a sleek frame, with crushed raspberry, blood orange peel, smoke and toasted almond notes set on the satiny mousse. The finish echoes subtle saffron and spice accents. (AN) (11/2018)

90 points Wine & Spirits

Pinot Noir berries are destemmed, then macerate for two to three days on the skins, providing this wine’s light color and the brisk tannins that bring to mind crushed pink peppercorns. It’s a gastronomic Champagne, austere and potent, with dark-toned flavors that leave the mouth refreshed. (12/2015)

K&L Notes

Made from 100% Pinot Noir grapes from a total of ten 100%-rated grands crus villages, this Champagne gets its glorious pink color and rounded red fruit flavors from a process known as "saigneé," in which the skins of the grapes are left in contact with the juice for three days. Laurent-Perrier's Cuvée Rosé not only makes a delicious apéritif, but is also a good match for a variety of different dishes.

A fantastic wine, gorgeously presented by a house that was established before the industrial revolution will always have a place in this world, and Laurent-Perrier's "Cuvée Rosé" is no exception. Luxuriously rich, with strong fruit notes on the nose and a light spice wrapped in creme on the palate, this is a bubbly rose for the special occasion. Pairs wonderfully with food and is a great remedy for the early spring chill!

I try to resist the big houses of champagne. I don't succeed very often. Products like this have me inevitably circling back. This is a phenomenal blend of sourced grapes from many different villages (though all grapes used are grand cru). 100% Pinot Noir, this champagne is like a fruit salad on a summers day. Refreshing and crisp, with heaps of strawberries, bing cherries and raspberries mid-palate and a drying finish.

Everything about the Cuvée Rosé is rich and seductive: the deep pink hue, the lush Pinot Noir fruit flavor, the silky texture. The fruit, entirely Grand Cru Pinot Noir, is destemmed, crushed and left in contact with the skins for an unusually long 72 hours, before being vinified and aged on the lees for four years. The result is a wine rich in the pure flavors of strawberries, raspberries, black cherries and hazelnuts with a creamy texture, crisp bubbles, and incredible length. This is a very delicious — and unique—rosé Champagne.

Laurent Perrier has been one of my favorite Grand Marquee producers since I had the pleasure of writing about their La Cuvee when it first appeared on the scene. Their rose is impressive with a combination of vineyards all given Grand Cru status. The 100% Pinot Noir is more feminine with lovely notes of sweet summer berries that bounce along a richly texture palate.

You don't become one of the world's best selling Rose Champagnes for no reason. The all Pinot Noir, all Grand Cru LP Rose is truly a gem - rich and plenty powerful, with a palate of lightly spiced raspberry and wild strawberry fruit and a creamy finish and framed by perfect acidity. Somehow LP manages to combine richness and elegance into one stunning Champagne.

If you haven't tasted the LP Rose lately, you should! This all Pinot Noir Champagne is entirely made from Grand Cru fruit and lighter than most that are made in this style- it is macerated with all of the skins in contact with all of the juice. The cellar master always judges the length of the maceration on the aromatics, and the result is a rose with character that is still completely elegant. The LP Rose has set the standard for rose Champagne for many years, and for good reason.

The Laurent Perrier Cuvee Rose is one of my favorite rose Champagnes in the store! It comes from all Grand Cru vineyards mostly in the south and north of the Montagne de Reims and is entirely Pinot Noir. It has a gorgeous salmon-pink color in the glass, and is very expressive on the nose and palate. It's full of red fruit character and richness from 5 years aging on the less. Every time I go back to this wine it never disappoints!

This Brut Rose has consistently been the darling of both staff and customers. It is composed of 100% Pinot Noir and retains a classic, clean, fresh raspberry and dark strawberry character. These days, there are also more mineral notes and hints of orange marmalade and black raspberries. A somewhat richer style but, balanced my minerals and tangy acidity on the finish. As is usual with this producer, quality has increased even more over the past few years without significant price increases. Still one of my favorite Champagne producers! (Updated 23 August, 2018).

It can be tricky to define pricey Rosé Champagne as a bargain, but when one considers just how much quality there is in each bottle of Laurent-Perrier, it suddenly seems underpriced. Made with extended maceration and using the more difficult saignée method, their Cuvée Rosé is special. Brilliant red berry fruit shines through the lifted palate, with both richness and minerality coming through to the clean finish. This is a substantial rose – great with food – yet elegant with tiny bubbles and a citrusy freshness. The fact that the bottle is gorgeous and the house pedigree dates back to 1812 only adds to the glamour of this lovely Pinot Noir Champagne.

Stylistically, Laurent Perrier is one of my favorite Grand Marques. I gravitate towards their bright, vibrant house style and that's exactly what you get in the Laurent Perrier "Cuvee Rose" Brut Rose Champagne. While the rose is 100% Pinot Noir and macerated with full skin contact, this rose is surprisingly lifted and understated for receiving such a heavy-handed treatment. The nose and palate are loaded with copious amounts of red berry fruit with ripe strawberries taking center stage supported by a backdrop of clean minerality. The refreshingly tart finish of cranberries and pomegranate make this rose the perfect accompaniment to any special occasion.

Intriguing rose that begins in an understated elegant way, and builds towards a fuller finish showing off its’ Grand Cru providence. The nose is hauntingly seductive, crushed red fruit, a mineral vein, and the faintest scent of rose petal all intermingled in harmony. The palate is defined by a textural grip that adds weight and importance, but the lifted flavors of wild strawberry and cream, with hits of cherry tart keep the wine extremely elegant and pretty. The finish picks up speed with reinforced dark cherry and minerality that wraps the wine up beautifully.

Bright, rich, ripe Rose Champagne with lovely fruit and excellent purity. It shows some subtle notes of crushed mint and strawberry coulis. The quality of the all Grand Cru Pinot Noir fruit sources really show through on this wine. The elegant pure red fruit flavors are balanced by a nice tart cranberry acidity on the finish.

Country:

France

- When it comes to wine, France stands alone. No other country can beat it in terms of quality and diversity. And while many of its Region, Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne most obviously, produce wine as rare, as sought-after and nearly as expensive as gold, there are just as many obscurities and values to be had from little known appellations throughout the country. To learn everything there is to know about French wine would take a lifetime. To understand and appreciate French wine, one only has to begin tasting them.
Sub-Region:

Champagne

- The French region of Champagne (comprised of the towns of Rheims, Epernay, and Ay) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and winemaking traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range from the basic brut (often blends of several vintages), single vintage champagnes, and rose.
