Inverroche Amber Gin (750ml)

SKU #1368551

Inverroche takes its name from the combination of two words that pay homage to their Scottish ancestry, referencing both their Celtic and Gaelic backgrounds. The Scottish word “Inver” meaning ‘a confluence of water’ and the French word “Roche” meaning ‘rock or stone’. Inverroche Distillery was founded by Lorna Scott and her family and has grown from strength to strength in the local community of Still Bay in the Western Cape of Southern Africa. In just 6 years, the distillery has grown from a small home industry to a flourishing and pioneering craft distillery. Maker note: "Infused with fynbos from the coastal region and dunes of the Cape Floral Kingdom, Inverroche Gin Amber is a rich and aromatic, amber coloured gin with fresh citrus, slight juniper, sweet toffee apples and delicate floral notes which intertwine to deliver a dry, woody finish."

When I first saw that K&L had a new gin I thought that there was not need to offer a new one because so many good ones are already in inventory. I was wrong, the Inverroche gins are all both tasty and interesting and add new taste experiences. The Amber is unique and delicious. The nose has subtle and delicate juniper notes that sit on top up a rich and almost burnt honey like aromas. In the the mouth it is full and creamy with a rich honey like and nut like flavors but it is not sweet. It will taste good alone on with tonic water.

- Now that it has adopted a multi-racial attitude, and now that the world has embraced its government and its exports, South Africa has become a major wine producer. Unfortunately, South Africa has had a difficult time joining the ranks of competitive winemaking countries. During the anti-apartheid sanctions in the 1980s, South African wine was dealt the huge blow when it was removed from the international market, and for political reasons it was quite difficult for wine producers to market wine to the black majority. Things are finally looking up for the wine industry here, and quality has never been higher. South Africa produces a grape cloned from Pinot Noir and Cinsault, called Pinotage, which is the country's unique varietal. Chenin Blanc (known as Steen) makes up one-third of its vines. Cabernet, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Shiraz are becoming increasingly popular as are Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay.
