Privateer Rum "Distiller's Drawer - K&L Exclusive" Bottled-In-Bond American Rum (750ml)

SKU #1429978

Now available in California - Privateer makes their debut with a killer cask of their bottled in bond rum selected by K&L and Martin Cate of Smuggler's Cove. Martin has described Privateer as one of the best producer of rum in America, and it's the casks like this that makes that claim possible. Privateer was certainly the first modern producer, if not the only one, to adhere to the strict Bottled-In-Bond standards for their rum. Aged in new American oak, #3 char. This delicious and smooth rum drinks very similarly to a nice barrel aged whiskey. If you enjoy single malt scotches with a hint of toasted nutty aromas and caramel flavors, this is a fun rum to try that is not overly sweet. The privateer is a K&L exclusive american rum that stands up on its own. I enjoy drinking it neat and some of my colleagues enjoy it on the rocks. Either way it's a rum that won't disappoint. Enjoy~

There is a fair amount of wood spice on this bottling, with definite notes of nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove. Drier in style, but still rich and velvety, this isn't as opulent as the Queen's Share from Privateer, but equally delicious. It's fantastic to be able to support a craft American distillery, and a no-brainer when their products are as high quality as Privateer's. If you are serious about your rums or are looking to expand your repertoire, this bottle should be in your collection.

Typically when someone talks about bottled in bond spirits, they're referring to bourbon or rye. In the case of Maggie Campbell, founder of Privateer Rum - it's all about rum. This "Distiller's Drawer" cask, a special distillery designation for their choicest barrels, has it all. Sweet vanilla, cola, cinnamon and nutmeg abound on the nose. The palate is superbly rich and round but dry as a bone. For those who like the feel of a sweeter style rum, but not the added sugar, this barrel is perfect. At 4 years old it's a great balance between wood and spirit character equally suitable for cocktailing or simply enjoying neat after dinner.
